Mahsa (Zhina) Amini, also known as Jina Amini, was an Iranian-Kurdish woman who was arrested and abused by the Guidance Patrol of the Islamic Republic of Iran, a special police squad in charge of public implementation of Islamic hijab regulations, for her hijab not meeting the government's mandatory Hijab standards. The official report of the police was that she went into heart failure and died after two days in a coma. But further evidence shows that her head was beaten with a stick and smashed into a police car multiple times. This violent act of the Guidance Patrol led to Amini suffering a brain hemorrhage, coma, and subsequently tragic death. Her death has become a symbol of violence against women in Iranian society.

Edward Theodore Gein, also known as the Butcher of Plainfield or the Plainfield Ghoul, was an American convicted murderer and body snatcher. Gein's crimes, committed around his hometown of Plainfield, Wisconsin, gathered widespread notoriety in 1957 after authorities discovered he had exhumed corpses from local graveyards and fashioned trophies and keepsakes from their bones and skin. A serial killer is typically a person who murders three or more people, in two or more separate events over a period of time, for primarily psychological reasons. There are gaps of time between the killings, which may range from a few days to months, or many years. This list shows serial killers from the 20th century to present day by number of victims. In many cases, the exact number of victims assigned to a serial killer is not known, and even if that person is convicted of a few, there can be the possibility that they killed many more.

Theodore Robert Bundy was an American serial killer who kidnapped, raped, and murdered numerous young women and girls during the 1970s and possibly earlier. After more than a decade of denials, before his execution in 1989 he confessed to 30 homicides that he committed in seven states between 1974 and 1978. The true number of victims is believed to be higher.
