Shinano (信濃) was an aircraft carrier built by the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) during World War II, the largest such built up to that time. Laid down in May 1940 as the third of the Yamato-class battleships, Shinano's partially complete hull was ordered to be converted to an aircraft carrier following Japan's disastrous loss of four of her original six fleet carriers at the Battle of Midway in mid-1942. A train crash occured on 28 February 2023 south of the Tempi Valley near the village of Evangelismos in Thessaly, Greece when a delayed InterCity train travelling from Athens to Thessaloniki collided head-on with an intermodal train going in the opposite direction on the same stretch of track; both partially derailing as a result. With 44 dead, more than 85 injured and around 50 to 60 unaccounted for, it is the worst disaster in the history of railways in Greece.

Ansel Easton Adams was an American landscape photographer and environmentalist known for his black-and-white images of the American West. He and Fred Archer developed an exacting system of image-making called the Zone System, a method of achieving a desired final print through a deeply technical understanding of how tonal range is recorded and developed in exposure, negative development, and printing. On 6 February 2023, two powerful earthquakes struck southern and central Turkey. The first occurred 34 km (21 mi) west of the city of Gaziantep at 04:17 TRT, causing widespread damage in Turkey and Syria. With a maximum Mercalli intensity of IX (Violent) and a magnitude of at least Mww 7.8, the first earthquake is tied with the 1939 Erzincan earthquake as the strongest instrumentally recorded earthquake to hit Turkey in modern times, while possibly being surpassed by the 1668 North Anatolia earthquake. It is also the deadliest earthquake to strike the country since the 1999 İzmit earthquake.
