On January 12, 2018, The Wall Street Journal reported that in October 2016, just before the 2016 United States presidential election, former U.S. President Donald Trump's lawyer arranged payment of $130,000 to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to stop her disclosing an affair they had in 2006. Daniels signed a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). At first, Trump's then lawyer Michael Cohen denied Trump had the alleged affair, and sought to suppress the allegation based on the NDA, but a month later publicly acknowledged making the payment. Besides other issues, questions also raised as to whether the payment violated federal campaign finance laws, either because the payment was not duly disclosed as a campaign contribution or because campaign funds may have been used towards the payment. On February 13, Cohen said he paid the money out of his own pocket, not as a campaign contribution; and that neither the Trump Organization nor the Trump campaign reimbursed him for making it. On April 5, Trump said he had no knowledge of Cohen's payment; but admitted on April 26 that Cohen represented him in "the Stormy Daniels deal" for the first time. On May 2, Trump's new lawyer Rudy Giuliani said that Trump had reimbursed Cohen for the payment. Cohen also faces discipline from the State Bar of New York under the New York Rules of Professional Conduct that prohibits lawyers making loans to clients due to this disclosure.

Neatsville is an unincorporated community in Adair County, in the U.S. state of Kentucky. It is located at the junction of Kentucky Route 206 and Kentucky Route 76. Its elevation is 705 feet (215 m). For unknown reasons, the town's name was spelled as Neetsville from 1876 until 1886, when the town's post office closed. In its early history from around the 1810s to 1900, Neatsville progressively grew to become a well-established, incorporated town. It has been relocated twice through the years, once due to flooding circa 1900–1902, which decimated the town, and once in the 1960s when the Green River was impounded to make way for the Green River Reservoir.

The Waco siege, also known as the Waco massacre, was the law enforcement siege of the compound that belonged to the religious sect Branch Davidians. It was carried out by the U.S. federal government, Texas state law enforcement, and the U.S. military, between February 28 and April 19, 1993. The Branch Davidians were led by David Koresh and were headquartered at Mount Carmel Center ranch in the community of Axtell, Texas, 13 miles northeast of Waco. Suspecting the group of stockpiling illegal weapons, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) obtained a search warrant for the compound and arrest warrants for Koresh, as well as a select few of the group's members.
