The Suez Canal is an artificial sea-level waterway in Egypt, connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea through the Isthmus of Suez. Derek Michael Chauvin is an American former police officer known for his involvement in the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on May 25, 2020. On 23 March 2021 at 07:40 EET (UTC+2), a 400-metre-long (1,300 ft) container ship, Ever Given, ran aground in the Suez Canal in Egypt. The ship was buffeted by a sandstorm and blown by strong winds of up to 50 kilometres per hour, causing it to lose control. The vessel collided with the bottom of the canal and got stuck, completely obstructing the canal and preventing any vessels from passing through. At least 15 other vessels are being held at anchorages and some 150 ships are queueing to pass through the canal while the situation is being resolved. As of 26 March 2021, the vessel is still wedged in the canal.

It echoes a number of the motifs of his earlier works while marking an advancement in his ability in handling depth of space, and establishes iconographic elements of Marian portraiture that were to become widespread by the latter half of the 15th century. Elisabeth Dhanens describes it as "the most charming, delicate and appealing work by Jan van Eyck that has survived".

Saverland v. Newton (1837) is a court case in which a British man named Thomas Saverland brought an action against Miss Caroline Newton, who had bitten off the left half of his nose after he attempted to steal a kiss at a party. The judge ruled against him, stating that "When a man kisses a woman against her will, she is fully entitled to bite his nose off, if she so pleases." The existence of this case or findings is not available in known court documents. Its recounting and/or existence is based upon newspaper accounts written years after the alleged case.

Scriptwriter Hiroshi Seko took over the series composition from Yasuko Kobayashi, and Tomohiro Kishi replaced Kyōji Asano as character designer due to the series switching production studios. The season covers the "Marley" and "War for Paradis" arcs from the original manga by Hajime Isayama.
Phi Slama Jama was a name given to the men's college basketball teams of the Houston Cougars from 1982 to 1984. Coined by former Houston Post sportswriter Thomas Bonk, the nickname was quickly adopted by the players and even appeared on team warmup suits by the middle of the 1982–83 season. Attack on Titan is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama. The Fritzl case emerged in 2008, when a woman named Elisabeth Fritzl told police in the town of Amstetten, Austria, that she had been held captive for 24 years by her father, Josef Fritzl. Fritzl had assaulted, sexually abused, and raped her numerous times during her imprisonment inside a concealed area in the basement of the family home. The abuse by Elisabeth's father resulted in the birth of seven children: three of them remained in captivity with their mother, one had died just days after birth at the hands of Josef Fritzl who disposed of his body in an incinerator, and the other three were brought up by Fritzl and his wife, Rosemarie, having been reported as foundlings.

Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Dutch post-impressionist painter who posthumously became one of the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art. The second season has been announced, and was scheduled to premiere in October 2020 but has been delayed to January 12, 2021 due to COVID-19. The second season is a split-cour anime and the second half was slated to air in April 2021 but has been pushed to July 2021.
